An agricultural businessman and his wife were shot dead early this Sunday, when they arrived at their residence located in the municipal district of Tireo, Constanza municipality.
The victims were identified as Luis Manuel Batista, 55, and his partner, María Magdalena Páez Jerez, 35. The incident occurred in the La Comina residential complex.
According to preliminary information, the attack occurred in the carport of the house, where the attacker was allegedly hiding in the bushes, waiting for the couple to get out of the vehicle. Subsequently, more than thirty shots were heard, which caused the immediate death of both.
After committing the crime, the perpetrator fled the scene aboard a white Toyota Hilux truck, license plate L473239, property of the victims.
Neighbors in the sector expressed their astonishment and dismay at the event, highlighting that Batista was a hard-working, calm person with no known conflicts within the community.
Members of the National Police, representatives of the Public Ministry and agents of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM) attended the scene, keeping the area cordoned off while collecting evidence and reviewing nearby security cameras, with the aim of clarifying the incident.
The bodies were lifted by the acting medical examiner and transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), while the authorities continue the investigations to find the whereabouts of the person responsible and establish the motives for this double homicide that has shocked the entire community.
