AN agrees to celebrate the International Day of Older Adults on October 1

This Thursday, during the ordinary session of the National Assembly, an Agreement was approved on the occasion of the celebration of October 1 International Day of Adults and Older Adults.

During the debate, the parliamentarians highlighted the importance of having useful and recognized older adults in the country, as well as guaranteeing their rights.

“The resistance of the Bolivarian Revolution in its historical struggle for the vindication of the rights of the people is evident, and the elderly are part of that resistance,” said the president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez.

The deputy Blanca Romero was in charge of reading the draft Agreement, where she highlighted the recognition of this sector of the population.

“Our recognition to adults and older adults for their morals, ethics, spirituality, within the Bolivarian Revolution,” he said while adding that the leading participation of women and especially older adults has been significant for the development whole of society.

For his part, the deputy Alfonso Campos, representative of the opposition caucus, proposed to propose the month of October as the month of Adults and Older Adults.

Concluding the debate, deputy Asia Villegas stressed that older adults represent the 15% of the population.

“The Bolivarian Revolution has prioritized the care and protection of our older adults,” he said.

He also added that currently 5 million Adults and Older Adults have their pension, “a right that humanized the Revolution.”
