AN activates work agenda to protect tenant rights

The National Assembly activated this week a work agenda to address the situation of arbitrary evictions of tenants that have been taking place in different states of the country, reported Deputy Rigel Sergent, coordinator of the Housing, Habitat and Urban Development subcommittee of the National Assembly. During an ordinary meeting, the members of the Housing subcommittee agreed on a work plan that contemplates the communicational deployment to ratify the measure of prohibition of arbitrary evictions established in the Law Against the Arbitrary Unemployment of Housing, with the purpose of protecting the rights of tenants, noted a note AN press release.

To activate this measure established in the Law, in which the protection of tenant families is guaranteed, it is planned to articulate the necessary actions with the Justice System.

Deputy Sergent assured that they will continue to attend to and channel the complaints received about evictions and abuses against tenant families, a task that has been carried out since the beginning of this year 2022.

“From the Permanent Commission of Administration and Services, and the team that works in the Housing Subcommittee, we will continue to receive and attend to this problem in order to restore the rights of these families and enforce the provisions of the Law Against Arbitrary Vacancy of Housing. “, said.

To continue with the attention to the complaints, the parliamentarian commented that they will work together with the Permanent Commission for Social Development.

He also recalled that on June 21 there was a mobilization with the Movement of Residents who, on that occasion, held a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, where they raised the issue of arbitrary evictions, disturbances and criminalization with punishable acts, mainly against tenant families, as well as other cases of legitimate occupants such as residential workers and usufructuaries who have been victims of abuses and illegal evictions.

The Movement of Settlers and Settlers is an instance of popular and autonomous struggle made up of the Urban Land Committees, United Residential Workers for Venezuela, the Pioneer Camps and the New Socialist Communities, the Tenants Movement and the Movement of Organized Building Occupants .

On June 21, members of the Movement of Residents of Venezuela mobilized to the Miraflores Palace, where they were received by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, with whom they shared their experiences of self-management in housing matters.

On that occasion, Rigel Sergent, movement spokespersonproposed the pilot plan for transitional housing, based on self-management so that the people can organize, plan and manage their own projects with the management of resources “in the hands of the people”.

Among the approaches and lines of action of the Movement of Residents to the Executive are:

1. Defense and shielding of all the land and buildings recovered in Revolution.

2. Stop arbitrary evictions.

3. Approval of a law for self-managed housing production.

4. Condemns all actions to criminalize the people.

5. Defense of all Chavez laws.

6. Communalization of our cities.

Revolutionize the People’s Movement

For his part, the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, upon receiving the settlers, stressed that it is necessary to revolutionize to the Movement, using for it the 3R.NETS (Resist, Reborn and Revolutionize).

During his meeting with the members of this Movement, the National President indicated that there must be a 1×10 communication, to avoid abuses.

“We must create a direct communication channel to deal with complaints about the violation of the Law, abuses and attempted evictions in the national territory,” he said.

Regarding the issue of evictions, the President instructed the Sectorial Vice President for Social and Territorial Socialism, Mervin Maldonado, to investigate the situation of illegal evictions that are taking place in the capital city.

“I charge Sector Vice President Mervin Maldonado, for the protection of families who are being threatened with illegal increases,” ordered the Venezuelan Head of State.

This institutional decree stems from the complaint filed by the Movement of Settlers and Settlers, which warned that 350 families in Caracas were at risk of eviction.

Housing Mission: must hear proposals from Popular Power

Likewise, the Head of State, during the meeting, stated that the Great Venezuela Housing Mission (GMVV), must be open to the proposals presented by the popular power.

“The Great Venezuela Housing Mission has to open the doors to listen to the criticism and proposals of the popular movement,” he stressed.

For the rights of tenants

On June 27, the first vice president and deputy to the National Assembly (AN), Diosdado Cabello, reported on the activation of the so-called Brigade 256in charge of receiving cases of abuse and eviction in the country, hand in hand with the Movement of Residents, to find solutions for these cases.

During the customary press conference of the National Directorate of the PSUV, Cabello said: “With comrades Pedro Infante and Pedro Carreño we are going to activate the 256th Brigade of deputies to receive all the cases of abuse and eviction that are happening in Venezuela. and receive them in the Assembly to give them adequate treatment; We do not doubt that there are abuses, they write to us every day and we see it ».

He recalled that the Law of Control and Regularization of Leases in Venezuela in 2011 guarantees the right of tenants.

“We firmly believe in the Residents’ Movement, we firmly believe in defending the interests of the tenants because we saw what they were suffering and we saw their happy face when the Law for the Control and Regularization of Leases in Venezuela was approved in the year 2011,” he pointed out.
