MIAMI, United States. — The body of an 86-year-old Cuban who had been missing for 19 days was found lifeless this Wednesday, the digital portal reported today Cuban Journal.

This is Lázaro Toca Núñez, a resident of the province of Havana, who had been seen for the last time on July 8.

The information about the discovery of the body was made daily in Cuba by his daughter, Graciela Toca, who declined to offer more details to the independent media.

After the disappearance of the victim, his daughter and his brothers searched for him “in nursing homes and other places.”

“We learned of his disappearance because they went to look for him at his house since he did not show up at work that day. My father is a custodian of a state center in Guanabacoa and they considered him a lot because of his age, ”he had previously declared to Cuban Journal the daughter of the deceased.

In recent years, disappearances, murders, and femicides have become frequent in Cuba, events that are rarely covered by the island’s state press.

At the beginning of July, the Cuban Ministry of the Interior (MININT) confirmed the death of Sancti Spiritus professor Santiago Morgado, whose murder had been previously reported by independent media and through users on social networks.

Days before, on June 26, the 22-year-old Claudia Montes was found dead after 14 days missing. The victim lived in the province of Matanzas.

An example of the violence in Cuba in recent years are the 86 femicides that have been reported on the island since the beginning of 2020 to date, according to data collected by independent organizations that defend women.

It should be noted that most of these crimes have not been reported by the Cuban regime, which has not issued official statistics on the matter since 2016.

The last registered femicide in the country would have occurred on Saturday, July 2. The victim was Arletty Reyes Batista, a 24-year-old Cuban woman whose alleged murderer was a man who offered her a “bottle” in her car at dawn.

The murder of Reyes Batista became the 17th femicide reported in Cuba so far this year.
