The National Assembly (AN) of 2020 evaluates making a “deep reform” to the Law on Political Parties, Public Meetings and Demonstrations. The president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, explained that the measure “seeks to adapt the rule to new times and prevent attempts to use political causes for conspiracy.”
Rodríguez made the announcement this Wednesday, October 16. During a statement to the media, he highlighted that the action will be part of the review to reform the laws that have to do with electoral matters.
From the Federal Legislative Palace, Rodríguez told journalists that with the analysis and reforms to the laws, the Legislature, which is dominated by the ruling party, seeks to protect the exercise of political sovereignty from interference. I argue “that through contributions to organizations with political purposes or individuals who carry out political activities from abroad, an attempt has been made to attack the stability and functioning of the institutions of the Republic.”

Regarding the Organic Law of Electoral Processes and the Law of Electoral Power, he said that both instruments require some reforms.
“There has been progress in the study of legal instruments.” He announced that next week Parliament will submit to citizen consultation the compendium of laws that are being evaluated for reform. He indicated that these days will begin with universities, Non-Governmental Organizations, community councils, regional parties and other sectors.
