The National Assembly (AN) of 2020 delays the approval in the second discussion of the Draft Law on Workers with Disabilities. After six months of their first discussion, in the session of this January 19, which seemed to be the final one to finally give the norm the green light, it was requested to defer their debate to refine “structural details” regarding the wording of the items that make it up.
The draft Law for Workers with Disabilities, an initiative of the Permanent Commission for Comprehensive Social Development, aims to protect, defend and ensure all people with disabilities in the effective exercise of their labor rights, guaranteeing their development integral in the work processes, according to their abilities and skills, according to article one read in plenary in the session on January 19.

“The validity of this law will bring about positive impacts on the economy, since it will allow the full, dignified, inclusive and leading incorporation of Persons with Disabilities in economic activity,” reads the bill.
The law consists of two titles, five chapters, a general provision and 27 articles, including the final transitory provision. In its article two, the Law indicates that it also seeks to ensure all people the enjoyment of their labor rights and guarantee people a productive and rewarding life that allows them the full development of their capacities, on equal terms with other people.
The standard seeks to promote inclusive, adapted and accessible work environments for people with disabilities. In it, the Ministry of Labor is summoned to establish permanent policies aimed at training people with disabilities for work and establishes that workers who have children with a disability for which they have difficulties fending for themselves, will have permanent job security. .
“Positions in companies must be appropriate to the characteristics of people with disabilities,” establishes the rule. At the same time, it orders that public and private companies that have sites that enjoy “universal designs of communication accessibility for people with disabilities.”
It adds the norm that public and private companies must incorporate no less than 5% of people with disabilities and the company must also promote the certification of these people.
AN authorizes appointment of ambassador to Spain
In the session of January 19, the AN-2020 unanimously authorized the appointment of Coromoto Godoy Calderón, as ambassador of Venezuela to the Kingdom of Spain, made by President Nicolás Maduro.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Godoy is a lawyer, graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), and a specialist in analysis, planning and strategic negotiation, a degree she obtained at the Interactive University of Malaga. She has performed functions in the Venezuelan foreign service, she was Ambassador to India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh (2019-2022) and Trinidad and Tobago (2012-2019).
On December 28, 2022, the Spanish authorities approved the appointment of Coromoto Godoy as Venezuela’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain.
