The National Assembly elected in December 2020 (AN 2020) approved on Thursday, December 15, the appointment of Mary Flores Mora as the new ambassador of Venezuela to Portugal, replacing the retired general Lucas Rincón Romero, who had held the position since 2006.
Her name was proposed in Plenary after the second vice president of the Permanent Commission on Foreign Policy, Sovereignty and Integration of the AN 2020, Roy Daza, presented a report in which he ensures that Flores is a diplomat “with experience” and knowledge about Portugal.

Daza believes that both the Executive and the Legislative Branch made a good decision by approving the appointment of Flores as ambassador in Lisbon because, in his opinion, it will help strengthen relations between the two nations.
“(It is about) relations that, for us, are very important, for us they are of great significance because the number of Portuguese or citizens of Portuguese origin who live in our country is very clear, (…) in addition to Venezuelans or of Venezuelan origin who live in Portugal,” said the parliamentarian.
Mary Flores Mora has held the position of Consul General of Venezuela in Lisbon since 2016. Previously, she served as Head of Mission of the Venezuelan Consulate in Montreal, Canada.
