On Wednesday, February 15, a bus accident was recorded in Panama, where there were migrants of various nationalities, in which at least 40 people died.
The board of directors of the National Assembly elected in 2015 (AN 2015), headed by Dinorah Figuera, issued a statement on February 18 in which it regretted the accident that occurred in Panama with a unit carrying 66 people, including 11 Venezuelan migrants.
He asked the Panamanian authorities to provide “the greatest consular and humanitarian support” to the Venezuelan migrants affected in the incident, in which at least 40 people died.
Similarly, the AN 2015 criticized the administration of Nicolás Maduro for causing an “immigration tragedy” due to its policies that caused the departure of more than six million people.

Meanwhile, most of the migrant children who were involved in the accident where a bus fell off a road in Gualaca, Chiriquí province in Panama, will be taken to protection centers. This measure applies to those minors who lost their parents in the incident and will be there until they can contact relatives who live in their countries of origin.
At least nine children go through this experience, says firewood effect.
The Presidency of Panama reported that 11 Venezuelans were on the bus that had an accident on its way to a shelter near the border with Costa Rica.
The unit, which carried 66 passengers, also had 22 citizens of Ecuador; 16 from Haiti; six from Brazil; five from Colombia; two from Cameroon and Cuba; one from Eritrea and one from Nigeria. Of the total, 42 are men and 24 women.

Meanwhile, forensics continue working to identify the bodies and requested genetic material to find out their nationalities, since in the incident they lost any type of identification that would facilitate the process.
However, the pathologists began on Sunday, February 19, the comparison of fingerprints of the deceased in the cases in which information has been received for it and, once they have results, they will send the information collected to the Public Ministry.
“The expert reports that are being carried out are intended to establish the identification of the deceased and survivors. It is a process of comparison, confirmation and legalization of identity,” said the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Panama in a statement reviewed by EFE.
This accident, considered the worst in the history of Panama, occurred in the context of the regional migration crisis: in 2022, 248,284 irregular travelers arrived in this country through the Darién jungle, an unprecedented number and 85.6% higher to 2021, while more than 37,000 have done so so far this year.
