After weeks of tensions and drastic changes on the national scene, the focus is now on next week. According to official statements, the schedule for detention centers being empty of political prisoners is directly linked to the legislative agenda of the coming days.
According to reports from CNN, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, established a roadmap during a meeting directly with family in Caracas.
The official emphasized that the exact moment of the releases depends on the ratification of the new legal regulations. “We already approved the law yesterday (in first discussion), then the Tuesday the second discussion must take place and it is definitively approved. Once that law is approved, everyone leaves that same day.”
Jorge Rodríguez will return to the detention centers to hear directly from families and review case lists. The second and final debate of the amnesty law in Parliament will take place on Tuesday.
Between Tuesday and Friday the mass departure of detention centers. Rodríguez insisted to the crowd gathered at the Zone 7 command of the Bolivarian National Police that there will be no more delays.
