AMLO: “We are not going to take a step back” in the hiring of Cuban doctors

MADRID, Spain.- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) reaffirmed this Wednesday his willingness to hire 500 Cuban doctors, in accordance with what was established during his recent visit To Cuba.

In his daily press conference, shared through Twitter, the president expressed: “Why not have the doctors? And let conservatives, selfish, hypocrites know that we are not going to take a single step back.”

After announcing the agreement, AMLO has received numerous criticisms, including being an accomplice in the exploitation of Cuban doctors.

According to the Mexican president, the Cuban doctors will fill the vacancies in the Mexican Institute of Social Security and in the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE), which remain unfilled due to the refusal of the country’s doctors. Aztec to move to rural areas.

For his part, the Secretary of Health of Mexico, Jorge Alcocer, pointed out: “If we are doing what is happening in Cuba, it is because we need doctors, and we thank the people of Cuba, the Government of Cuba, the Cuban doctors, for their solidarity. ”.

López Obrador declared that Cuban doctors, who will spend 3 years in Mexico, will receive the same salary as nationals.

However, according to the regime’s policy, doctors will only receive between 5 and 25 percent of this salary. The rest will go to the hands of the Cuban government.

The agreement is a trap to finance the dictatorship

After President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the hiring of Cuban doctors, Mexican lawyer and politician Ricardo Anaya denounced through his social media that the hiring is a trap to finance the island’s dictatorship with Mexican taxes.

Addressing the Mexicans, he said: “Have you already realized the trick with which the government is using your tax money to finance a dictatorship, a repressive government of another country?”

Last February, the news portal Latinus denounced that in 2021 alone, the AMLO government, through the National Council for Science and Technology of Mexico (Conacyt), paid 34 million pesos (around 1.66 million dollars) to Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos Cubanos SA, a company anonymous created in 2011 internationally accused of human trafficking and forced labor.

At the beginning of this month, it emerged that the South African government had spent 30.3 million rand (almost two million dollars) on Cuban doctors in 2021 and that it still employed 14 doctors from the island, who were paid between $5,000 to $6,000 a month.
