President Andrés Manuel López Obrador continued yesterday his supervision tour throughout the works of the Mayan Train, this time accompanied by the governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila. Puerto Progreso was also included where, according to the head of the Executive, the special diesel that will be produced at the Pemex refinery in Deer Park, Texas will arrive.
For her part, on her social networks, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, celebrated the announcement made by López Obrador on Saturday to invest in the construction of a 21-kilometer road that connects the Bacalar Mayan Train station with the ruins of Ichkabal and Paamul II.
Both sites will become more important, according to the project that, in addition to the railway, has the National Institute of Anthropology and History. In the first case, it is a space located 30 kilometers from the Bacalar station with great historical relevance – as documented at the time the day–, because there are indications that Ichkabal is the origin of the Kaanu’l (Serpent) dynasty, one of the most powerful of the Mayan civilization. It is considered one of the largest urban centers in its time.
As he stated since the end of 2022, this year the President will pay particular attention to the progress in the construction of the Mayan Train, whose inauguration is scheduled for December 2023. This weekend was the second time he visited the peninsula for that purpose.
“I received the president in #Yucatán @lopezobrador to monitor the progress of the @TrenMayaMXthe Great Park of #La Plancha, the expansion of the high altitude port of #Progreso and the Hospital of #Ticul, works that promote tourism, jobs and the health of Yucatecan families,” Vila wrote on his social networks.
