In his morning press conference, the president explained that on August 7 he held a meeting with García Harfuch to review the current security agenda at the national level.
“(Harfuch) knows the strategy that is being followed, the central idea of addressing the causes under the principle that peace is the fruit of justice. He was a good Secretary of Public Security of Mexico City and, although he is not everything in politics, the results count,” he said.
The president highlighted that Mexico City has seen significant progress in terms of security, with a 44% reduction in intentional homicides and almost 50% reduction in vehicle theft during Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration.
“Mexico City is one of the safest cities in the world and that was very noticeable,” he said.
López Obrador also announced that, in addition to Harfuch, he recently met with the next Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jesús Esteva, with whom he is already conducting tours and reviewing works that are under construction or that will be inaugurated soon.
