If the date given by the president is fulfilled, the Interurban Train would be ready nine and a half years after its construction began, which began in July 2014, during the six-year term of Enrique Peña Nieto.

At the beginning of 2024, the operational tests for the transport system are expected to begin, according to Manuel Gómez Parra, general director of Railway and Multimodal Transport of the SICT.
“In this six-year term, the civil and electromechanical works would have been completed at the end of 2023 and at the beginning of 2024 to be able to start the tests, and then go into operation,” said Gómez Parra during the Expo Rail 2022 Congress on October 6.
The train will connect the metropolitan area of Toluca with the west of the capital along 57.7 kilometers to reach the Observatorio station of Line 1 of the Metro.
In addition to delays due to problems in the release of the right of way, the work has presented a cost overrun of 173% compared to the originally projected resources.
