“It is for virtue but for luck, for the creator and for the aluxes, for life… I have been lucky,” he said after giving recognition to the engineers of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) in charge of the work of the Mayan Train.
With a political career spanning more than four decades, from local positions in Tabasco to governing Mexico City and then participating in three presidential elections to win in 2018, López Obrador is close to handing over the presidential sash to his successor.
“He leaves us, president, a new economic model, the bases of a new Judicial Power, the foundations of a new thought and he leaves something beautiful, a politicized, happy people, who know their strength and their history, a people who know who saved the people of Mexico.

The president described the Mayan Train as “the most important work that has been built in the world in recent years” and stated that it was built thanks to the fight against corruption, as this allows resources to be released “for development.”
The president defended the flagship project of his six-year term, which has also been controversial due to the environmental impact on the Mayan jungle and in whose section five of the road a judge’s suspension of work still weighs, before social organizations that oppose it.
“There was no opposition from the communities because the people wanted this work. Who were the opponents? Well, pseudo-environmentalists who have a conception that is not ecological but political, very conservative,” said López Obrador.
