AMLO “details” health agreement with Cuba without explaining the hiring of doctors

Cuba, AMLO, médicos

MADRID, Spain.- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) offered some details about the health agreement established between the Mexican Ministry of Health and the Cuban Ministry of Public Health during his visit to the island at the beginning of this month.

Through a releasethe Mexican government specified that both agencies may send specialists to provide their services in prevention, public health, care and telementoring in health units or institutions, and may propose and make available annual spaces for the training of medical specialists.

The agreement, signed by the head of Health of Mexico, Jorge Alcocer Varela, and his Cuban counterpart, José Ángel Portal Miranda, mentions the inclusion of future agreements on medicines and vaccines; scientific research and any other area that is established in writing.

In this regard, it is indicated that both countries will be able to acquire medicines, vaccines and all kinds of manufactured medical equipment.

Regarding scientific research, he states that both Mexico and Cuba will set up a technical-regulatory committee to develop joint actions.

Among the project areas, the feasibility of developing a comprehensive care program for diabetic patients is being analysed, the specifications of which, if applicable, will be detailed in the corresponding specific cooperation project.

Hiring conditions for Cuban doctors? still no answer

Although the Mexican president had promised to give details of the agreement, the official document did not refer to the conditions under which the Cuban doctors will be hired.

He did not mention the salary to be received by the island’s doctors, nor the percentage that will end up in the hands of the government, which is usually almost the entirety, as the doctors themselves have said for years on international “missions.”

As the organization Prisoners Defenders denounced at the beginning of 2022, Cubans who go to work in other countries sent by the regime are victims of labor exploitation.

in his third extension of the complaint to the Cuban Government on this issue, based on 1,111 testimonies, Prisoners Defenders stated that those who go on a mission to travel have their ordinary passport withdrawn and are not allowed to carry their study certificate. They are also not allowed to marry and are forced to return to Cuba or lose everything, forced to pay fees to organizations dependent on the communist party.

After Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced this new contract, he was accused of being an accomplice in the exploitation of Cuban doctors.

The Mexican lawyer and politician Ricardo Anaya, addressing the Mexicans, said through his social media: “Have you already realized the trick with which the government is using your tax money to finance a dictatorship, a repressive government of another country?”
