AMLO congratulates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva although the second round is still to come

On December 15, 2020, the president reported that he sent a letter to Donald Trump’s successor to express his approval. For weeks, López Obrador denied Biden for his victory in the United States presidential elections, arguing that his government does not intervene in the internal affairs of another nation.

This Monday, President López Obrador was asked about the victory in Brazil, which he said was an example for democracy, although Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will still have to face a second round.

“There can and should be differences, but the most convenient way to resolve the different ways of thinking, the political positions, is through democracy, elections, so that the citizens are the ones who always decide freely, in that sense it was a example the election in Brazil, in democratic terrain”, he affirmed.

On October 30, the second round will be held in Brazil to determine if Jair Bolsonaro remains in office or if he is replaced by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

With Lula da Silva, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has had a close relationship.
