AMLO confirms Tesla’s arrival in Monterrey after call with Musk

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed this Tuesday that after the call he had with the businessman Elon Muskan understanding was reached that allowed Tesla’s electric car assembly plant to reach Monterrey.

AMLO stressed that he agreed with Musk to carry out various actions to guarantee the arrival of water resources in the area and that the CEO of Twitter also promised to carry out efforts to help in this task.

Some commitments will be announced tomorrow,” said López Obrador during his morning conference of this Tuesday.

The head of the Executive said that the businessman was receptive and accepted the proposals made by the Mexican government, which will be announced tomorrow Wednesday by the company.

The president wanted Tesla to settle in central or southeastern Mexico and cited various factors, such as the high availability of water or the proximity to the new Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).

The president’s interference exposed the unstable foundations of nearshoring in the country, say analysts, at a time when Mexico has emerged as an alternative for the installation of factories near the United States.

Nuevo León recently suffered a water supply crisis that caused tension among the population, which demonstrated demanding the liquid. On the other hand, AMLO has been a strong promoter of investment in southern Mexico, which includes some of the poorest areas of the country.

Entities such as Michoacán, Tabasco and even Mexico City have been pointed out as possible locations for Tesla’s investment in Mexico.
