AMLO announces works for 120 thousand million pesos to activate development in Oaxaca

Salina Cruz, Oax., President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced an investment of 120 billion pesos for the construction of two plants in this port: one for liquefaction (gas), which includes a gas pipeline, and a coking plant (fuels).

These two initiatives are part of the president’s three priorities to promote the development of the Tehuantepec isthmus and are added to the modernization of the ports of Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos and the railway in the region for cargo and passenger transport.

These are key gears to shape the Interoceanic Corridor, one of the central projects of the six-year term, with which it is intended to materialize the often frustrated connection between the Pacific and the Gulf.

It is a challenge because we have little time. Before finishing my mandate I want to leave the project operating; We have two years and three months left. You have to give the last push to leave it operating, pointed out when leading the review of the modernization works of the port of this city, located on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. He was accompanied by officials from his cabinet and Alejandro Murat, governor of Oaxaca.

Murat welcomed the President on his 31st visit to the entity so far in his mandate. In any region of our state it is already a constant to see his figure in the landscape, but especially the works that are allowing Oaxaca the true transformation it needed and thus address a historical debt.he highlighted.

Some projects in the corridor will be in charge of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar). Before dozens of people who waited until the end of the act to greet him or send him their requests, the president recalled that the idea of ​​uniting these two ports dates back centuries and making it a reality will represent a feat. In the Colony, a plan was thought to connect them, and more than 100 years ago two Oaxacans tried it, each one at his time: Presidents Benito Juárez and Porfirio Díaz.

But at that time “the Pacific was not what it is now. All trade was done through the port of Veracruz; Asia was a sleeping region and now there are other circumstances: more cargo is transported through the Pacific ports than through the Gulf (…) now there are unbeatable conditions”.

With this development it will be possible to match the power that today leans towards Asia. We need economic and commercial balance, we do not want hegemonies, neither in the economic nor in the commercial sphere, much less in politics, and not at all in the war. López Obrador added that in the neoliberal period the south and southeast of the country were forgotten.

The liquefaction plant includes a new pipeline to build a gas pipeline to bring gas from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz and freeze it for sale to Asia. 60 billion pesos will be invested and it will generate 3 thousand jobs.

The same amount will be used by Pemex for the coking plant, with which fuel oil will be transformed into gasoline and other fuels, reducing pollutants.

He said the project is a curtain of development so that people do not have to migrate. Jubilation was unleashed among those present, while a baby cried at the top of his lungs, even overshadowing the president’s voice.

The corridor includes other developments, such as the construction of 10 industrial parks and tax incentives for those who settle there in order to ensure job creation. In addition, the railways of the Ixtepec-Tapachula (border with Guatemala) and Coatzacoalcos-Palenque routes (which will connect with the Mayan Train) will be rehabilitated.

López Obrador later visited the Salina Cruz refinery and supervised the railroad tracks of the Interoceanic Corridor.

On the federal highway that leads to Coatzacoalcos, ejidatarios from Mogoñe, Oaxaca, intermittently blocked the road waiting for the president to pass in order to inform him of a 40-year-old land conflict.
