Sheinbaum stated that Chapultepec was already in the heart of the current president, since when López Obrador was head of government, he asked her, then Secretary of the Environment, to recover the Parque de la Hormiga, privatized during the government of former president Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
“The biggest invasion was carried out by Salinas de Gortari, who took a good part of Chapultepec Forest for Los Pinos,” said the future president.
Sheinbaum joked about the criticism against the current government regarding the militarization of security, as she said that spaces such as the former Gunpowder factory will be occupied by two schools, one for the arts and the other for film.
“The decision was made that the military industry – just look at how much militarization – the military industry would become a public space and the University of Health is also very close to here,” he said.
Just seven days before the presentation of the presidential sash and the inauguration of the next president of Mexico, López Obrador described Sheinbaum as an “exceptional woman.”
“It is very satisfying that continuity with change will be in the hands of an exceptional woman, an intelligent, prepared, experienced, sensitive, honest woman with good feelings, a good heart. That is Claudia, the next president,” said the federal president.
López Obrador celebrated the opening of the Fourth Section of Chapultepec Park, which, in addition to the new Cablebús line, includes 12 cultural nodes, including the Lázaro Cárdenas Museum-House; Cencalli: House of Corn and Food Culture; Garden and Stage Pavilion; Environmental Culture Center; Community Culture Pavilion; Panteón de Dolores; Parcur: Urban Culture Park; National Art Warehouse; Chapultepec National Film Library; Former Gunpowder Factory, with the School of Artistic Production and Education: El Arsenal, and the Chapultepec Film Training Center.
“It belongs to everyone, but fundamentally this project, this expansion, will allow the working-class neighborhoods that are here in front of Chapultepec to have access to this forest, because it was not like that before,” said López Obrador.
For one month, the new Cineteca Nacional Chapultepec will offer free programming, announced the Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto.
The current Head of Government, Martí Batres, and the elected Head of Government, Clara Brugada, were also present at the event.
