The former head of the National Police, Aminta Granera, reappeared on Sunday, April 28. After her departure from the institution, we had only heard from her in July 2019 when she waited on the road to Masaya, in Managua, for the El Repliegue caravan to pass by to greet Daniel Ortega.
Granera, that day, stood on the street waiting for the Mercedes Benz bus that took the dictatorial couple. Upon seeing him, she blew kisses to the presidential couple. Subsequently. she was seen in the Cathedral of León in La Gritería.

After those two events, no information was known about her. Granera served as the head of the Police in the first 10 days of the repression, from April 18 to 28, when her resignation from the position she had held since 2006 was unofficially announced.
At the time of his resignation, there were already 46 murders at the hands of the Police and paramilitaries, who acted under the protection of the institution he directed, according to reports at that time from the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh), which was illegalized and confiscated in December 2018.
Although Granera would have resigned in the first days of state repression, it was not until August 2018 that dictator Daniel Ortega would have officially accepted his departure.
Commissioner General Francisco Díaz, father-in-law of Ortega and Rosario Murillo, assumed police leadership after Granera’s retirement, although years ago he had already taken de facto possession of the position.
The new appearance of the former police chief, according to videos and photos published in X, occurred at the wedding of her daughter Julia Dolores with the Chinandegan Julio Callejas. The event was held in Gran Pacifica, a luxury resort in the municipality of Villa El Carmen, department of Managua.
In one of the videos, Granera can be seen with a light band in his hand and dancing to the rhythm of “Tití asked me” by the Puerto Rican trapper Bad Bunny.

In November 2022, the Inter-American Legal Assistance Center on Human Rights (Calidh) filed a complaint against several Nicaraguan officials, including Granera, so that the Argentine justice system could investigate her degree of responsibility as director of the Police in Nicaragua during the repression carried out. in the outbreak of April 2018.
«The actions of the National Police during the repression of April 2018 requires the investigation of the responsibility of Ms. Aminta Granera Sacasa and, in addition, justifies the criminal responsibility of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua for the crimes against humanity carried out by action or omission through of the National Police, in accordance with the complaint duly presented,” indicates the document expanding the complaint.
CALIDH considers that Granera and other officials are responsible for planning, directing and executing various behaviors sanctioned by the crime against humanity established in Article 7 of the Rome Statute, within the framework of systematic and widespread attacks against the civilian population.
“…because they committed the crimes of murder, extermination, torture, rape and other forms of sexual violence, forced disappearance of people, among others,” the organization says in a public statement.
