In the midst of the tragedy that the city of Petrópolis is going through, hit by a storm on Tuesday (15) that caused flooding, landslides and already accounts for 152 deaths, a breath of joy and hope involved sheltered and volunteers who are at the support point. set up at the Bom Jesus Parish School, in the Dr. Thouzet neighborhood.
Little Ana Alice was born there, at 8:42 am today (20). The baby’s mother, 19-year-old Giovana Cerqueira, was not sheltered and arrived at the support point around 7:30 am to warn the mother, welcomed at the Parish School, that she was in pain.
The team from the health post, which was working at the point, was called and examined Giovanna, who was nine months pregnant with her second daughter. The delivery was performed by nurse Tatiana Jardim Costa and doctor Rita de Cassia Araújo.
“Her mother and I put her on the floor, and I said: ‘press hard’. Soon I saw the baby’s head, and she was born. She was beautiful,” said Tatiana Jardim Costa.
The school’s director, Renata Zacharsk, said that the moment moved everyone in the place.
“She was having strong contractions. We called the Civil Defense, which called the ambulance, but there was no time. The baby was born right here. It was the most exciting thing I’ve seen in my life. She wasn’t sheltered at the school, only her mother. It was a very emotional time for everyone here.”
After giving birth, Giovana and Ana Alice were taken to the Alcides Carneiro Hospital, in the Corrêas neighborhood. The two are doing fine.
