AMH participates in the inauguration of the “Ford GFNY Oaxaca 2022” cycling race

  • This event has the participation of 1,300 cyclists from 25 countries, who are grouped in the categories of 140.7 and 101.4 kilometers of travel.

Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, August 14, 2022.- Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa participated this morning in the first edition of the Gran Fondo de Nueva York (GFNY) “Ford GFNY Oaxaca 2022” bike race of challenge and resistance, which has the participation of 1,300 athletes from 25 countries, among which the presence of former Mexican cyclist Raúl Alcalá and former soccer player Manuel Negrete, benchmarks of Mexican sports, stand out.

Prior to the start of this event that had as its starting point the “Hermanos Flores Magón” sports complex in the Oaxacan capital, Murat Hinojosa expressed the importance of promoting family sports to strengthen unity among its members and to stay healthy.

He also stressed that this activity is an opportunity to position Oaxaca as a sports tourism destination, in addition to the promotion of the state at a national and international level. “Oaxaca is a destination with a great attraction for the cycling union thanks to its natural, cultural and gastronomic heritage,” he said.

When announcing that he will travel a 20-kilometer section and in the company of a group of participants, among which the presence of athletes Raúl Alcalá and Manuel Negrete stood out, the State President proudly pronounced that ¡Viva Oaxaca!

The “Ford GFNY Oaxaca 2022” cycling race has a 140.7-kilometer category, which started outside the “Hermanos Flores Magón” Sports Complex, to continue on International Highway 190 to Tlacolula de Matamoros, Villa de Mitla and return at kilometer 6.3 of the Oaxaca-Istmo highway, before reaching El Zompantle, a town belonging to the municipality of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz.

On their return, the riders will turn left on the highway to the Sierra Norte, arriving in Santa Catarina Ixtepeji, to resume the controlled descent to the starting point at the Incude Oaxaca facilities.

While in the medium-distance modality with 101.4 kilometers, the route will be the same, but the participants will not get on the road towards the Sierra Norte, so their route will also end at the starting point, on the street of Human Rights of the Oaxacan capital.

The GFNY is a road bike event, which takes place in Mexico and in 2022, Oaxaca is the venue that joins the list of cities such as Zapopan, Monterrey and Cozumel, adding up to now more than 18 events in Mexico.
