Villarreal is currently the elected governor of Tamaulipas for the constitutional period 2022-2028, which will begin on October 1, 2022 and the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) will resolve this Wednesday 28, in a public session, whether or not the validity of the election is confirmed.
This morning, President López Obrador said that Américo Villarreal’s return to the Senate is because “he is protecting himself” from alleged persecution.
“He is protecting himself because there is persecution, it is a very extreme situation and pressure, it seems that the president of the Electoral Court is an official or was an official of one of the PAN advisors,” said the president.
In recent days, the now senator Villarreal has accused the still president of Tamaulipas, Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, as well as the lawyers Roberto Gil, former private secretary of President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, and Rafael Coello Trejo, former Attorney General of the Republic (PGR ), of colluding against him.
