Americans unite their voices against the blockade against Cuba

The protesters also urged that peace prevail in Eastern Europe and an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine, a crisis encouraged by Washington and its allied countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Cuba’s friend, liberal Democratic representative for the state of Connecticut, Rosa De Lauro, and the mayor of the city of Middletown, Benjamin Florsheim, were present at the protests.

While the world focuses its attention on the European crisis, and launches toxic campaigns defending US hegemony, the citizens of that country remember that the island has suffered the consequences of an unjust economic and commercial siege for six decades.

Among the attendees was the president of the Latin Unity in Action movement, John Jairo Lugo, who called for peace in Ukraine and recalled that unilateral sanctions against the Caribbean island are acts of terrorism and genocide.

The solidarity groups with Cuba New Haven Peace Council (NEMO), No Embargo Cuba Movement, Greater Hartford Cuba Solidarity Committee, Connecticut Peace and Solidarity Coalition and Unidad Latina en Acción also participated.

The groups Vecinos Unidos, Latin America Solidarity Coalition of WMass, Green Party of Connecticut, Veterans for Peace Connecticut and ANSWER Coalition also attended.

According to these movements, the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than half a century is the longest economic war in the history of humanity, deliberately designed to cause hunger, disease and despair in the Cuban population.

For decades, the Cuban people and government and friends of the Caribbean nation around the world have demanded an end to this policy countless times, but successive administrations in Washington have turned a deaf ear.

The end of this monstrosity is in Congress and the executive branch of the government, based in the White House, explained and added that the blockade can only be defeated from within the United States.

Denouncing him is not the objective, but to demonstrate his senseless cruelty, something that is not achieved only with slogans, nor with good wishes and reasons, or votes in international organizations, they agreed.

Mobilizing opinion within the northern country is of paramount importance to win this battle, they concluded.
