American Airlines limits two bags per traveler to Cuba and will charge $200 for the second

The second checked bag with American Airlines will cost travelers flying to Cuba $200 starting next Tuesday, instead of the current price of $65.

According to new baggage policy of the company, updated on April 26, the measure affects tickets purchased from that same day, corresponding to trips from May 3.

For tickets issued before May 11, 2021, the check-in of the second bag will be charged at $40, and for those purchased between May 12, 2021 and before April 26, 2022, $65.

However, to leave Cuba, the first and the second suitcase (always of standard size, they clarify) are free.

The first checked bag, yes, drops in price, from 50 to 30 dollars.

However, to leave Cuba, the first and second suitcase (always of standard size, they clarify) are free. If the trip is roundtrip from the Island, when leaving, the first and second suitcase are free and, when returning, the first standard-size suitcase is free, but the second will be charged $200.

Only two checked bags with a maximum weight of 32 kilograms each, plus one carry-on bag and one personal item per passenger traveling to Cuba, “no exceptions,” will be allowed, says the airline. On the other hand, passengers with other destinations in the Caribbean or Mexico will be able to travel with four suitcases and will also be charged $200 for the third and fourth.

American Airlines resumed its daily flights from Miami to Havana last december 2after the restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic.
