Amelia Calzadilla: “This town is speaking and shouting what is in its soul”

Amelia Calzadilla Hernández

MIAMI, United States. – Cuban Amelia Calzadilla he broke his silence this friday and assured that, although she remains without gas and is still willing to denounce the problems that affect her and her loved ones, she believes that your complaints “they are no longer necessary” because the Cuban people “are speaking and shouting what is in their soul”.

In this way, Calzadilla not only alluded to the harsh reality that Cubans are going through, and which is marked by long power outages, shortages of medicine and food, and lack of basic freedoms, but also to the recent protests registered in various Cuban municipalities. , such as Los Palacios, Jagüey Grande and Sagua la Grande.

The Cuban, whose complaints went viral in early June of this year, also said this Friday that she was not looking for fame. “I’m not looking for fame, I never looked for it, that’s why I also decided to move away, I know my place and where I have to be for all those who like to speculate or are concerned about where I am.”

“I accept and respect all opinions, but know that I pass widely on the attacks because I understand that they start from ignorance (which these days is superfluous), from the absurd commitment, from personal benefits and even from the absurdity of blindly believing without corroborating the information and idealizing figures,” he said.

Calzadilla also shared the publication of Ruy Díaz Martínez, his father-in-law, who asked not to “go out and justify and find guilty of inefficiency for more than 63 years due to poor management and planning; I think that many of us are already tired of hearing slogans and slogans that do not come close to reality and that seem to make a mockery of all the needs that are experienced today with so many deficiencies that exist.

“I cannot be continuity of what does not exist; it cannot be that someone says prosperous when there is a delay (…). We barely survive in queues for the little they take out of food, queue to catch the bus, queue for gasoline, queues and queues added to blackouts, heat, sadness”, lamented the Cuban.

Last June 9, Calzadilla fearlessly lashed out at officials, first because of high electricity prices, and then because of the government’s inefficiency in managing the economy.

The young woman, a graduate of English Language at the University of Havana, said that at any moment she would get nervous because her children had no food, shoes or medicine, and that she had to wait for help from her family abroad to live worthily

On that occasion, Calzadilla called on the Cuban people to join him: “You Cuban people, how much longer are you going to put up with it?”

In her direct, of just over eight minutes, Calzadilla explained that, since July 2021, the young woman had strong words for Miguel Díaz-Canel, Bruno Rodríguez and Lis Cuesta. Outraged and visibly frustrated, Calzadilla recounted the vicissitudes she must go through with three small children.

Since that day, several Cuban mothers and fathers have gone out on networks denouncing their situation and supporting the young woman, whose internet service was even cut off by ETECSA because of her video.
