Amchamdr is working on a plan to reduce the return of agricultural products

Amchamdr trabaja plan reducir devolución de productos agrícolas

On the 19th and 20th of this month, an activity will be held in Santiago with agricultural producers who export to the United States

The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (Amchamdr) is working on a plan to reduce the return of non-traditional agricultural products by the United States in order to increase exports to that nation.

The information was provided by William Malamud, Executive Vice President of the entity, who was accompanied by Edwin de los Santos, President; María Waleska Álvarez, Vice President, and Carlos Julio CamiloChairman of the Committee on Economy and Capital Markets, participating in the HOY Economic Meeting.

They pointed out that one of the sectors that has grown the most in exports to the United States, within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Central America and the Dominican Republic (DR-CAFTA), has been non-traditional agricultural products.

They said that these exports have been constantly increasing, as has the number of rejections by states. These are trucks that arrive in the United States and are rejected due to lack of fumigation and other problems.

They recalled that last January the Amchamdr and the World Trade Center Miami (WTCM) signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of strengthening trade relations between Florida and the country.

They noted that the country’s trade with Florida represents about a third of trade with the United States. They noted that there is a lot of interest on both sides in how to lower costs in trade between Florida and the Dominican Republic.

As a result of this agreement, the Chamber will hold a Workshop on Perishable Products on the 19th and 20th of this month at the Gran Almirante Hotel, where several workshops will be given.

It is organized by the United States Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration is an agency of the United States Government and the United States Customs and Border Protection Office.

The technicians who carry out the inspections in Florida will offer a workshop with the producers on best practices to reduce returns by the United States, because a rejection is a hard blow for a small producer.

Amchamdr will host Dominican Week in the United States, which has become the most important platform for dialogue between the United States and the country. Cultural, political and economic issues and investment opportunities are addressed.

On Monday, September 30, the union’s centenary commemoration will be launched alongside past presidents in Washington.

This will be followed by an activity on renewable energy with the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The following day, an event on elections and trade policy will be held at Squire Patton Boggs, and on October 2, tax reform will be discussed. On the last day of Dominican Week, there will be a lunch with stakeholders in New York.
