Diplomatic sources confirmed to CONFIDENTIAL that Ambassador Muscheidt will travel to Brussels next Saturday, as she had planned for several weeks, but they did not reveal whether she will return to Nicaragua to resume her diplomatic mission.

The Nicaraguan regime justified its status as non grata for Ambassador Muscheidt, alleging that it was due to “interference and disrespect for national sovereignty” on the part of the European Union.

European Union confirms meeting at the Foreign Ministry

A report of Spanish newspaper El Pais pointed out that the diplomat was notified of her de facto expulsion after a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Managua with the Chancellor Denis Moncada, in which the ambassador of France, Brieuc Pont, and german Christoph Bunduscher. This meeting was confirmed by the spokesman for the European Foreign Service, Peter Stano.

“I am not aware of any official announcement. The only thing I can say on the subject at this time is that our ambassador, the head of the European Union delegation in Managua, was summoned to the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we are evaluating her situation in contact with the Nicaraguan authorities.” Stano said, in response to a query from the Spanish newspaper.

Officially, the Nicaraguan Government has not issued an official communication, while the EU delegation in Managua, and the European Commission in BrusselsThe, have not yet ruled on the de facto expulsion of Muscheidt, appointed to the position as representative on July 30, 2021.

The European Union will pronounce itself after the departure of the ambassador

Diplomatic sources confided to CONFIDENTIAL that Brussels will rule on this position of the Ortega dictatorship after Muscheidt leaves the country.

The dictator Daniel Ortega also did not allude to the issue during his speech at the event for the 43rd anniversary of the National Police, concentrating his attacks against the president of Chile Gabriel Boric and Brian Nichols Undersecretary of the United States, whom he described as “lapdogs” because they have demanded the freedom of Nicaragua’s political prisoners in international forums.

The de facto expulsion of Ambassador Muscheidt occurs after this Monday, September 26, the delegate of the European Union before the United Nations Organization (UN), Charles Michel, urged the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo to “return the sovereignty of Nicaragua to the Nicaraguan people” and to “restore democracy” in the country, where the human rights of the population are systematically violated.

“The EU urges the Nicaraguan authorities to fulfill their own commitments, the Nicaraguan Constitution and international human rights laws and regulations,” added Michel during his speech at the 77th United Nations General Assembly.

He also warned that, since the voting on November 7, 2021, the repression has continued and the situation has deteriorated even more.

“The Nicaraguan authorities must end all repression, including repression against political opponents, clergy, independent media, civil society and human rights defenders, and guarantee full respect for human rights, including freedom of assembly, association, expression, and religion or belief,” the delegation said.

Regime “you are crossing a red line”

The de facto expulsion of the ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Nicaragua it is considered by the academic and former member of the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy (ACJD), Ernest MedinaWhat “one more step towards isolation” of the Daniel Ortega regime that “you are crossing a red line” that has to exist in international relations.

“It is one more step towards the isolation of (Daniel) Ortega from the civilized and democratic countries of the world. Ortega he’s looking like an outcast between the countries of the area. His great friends now are Iran, which is killing women and young people who protest the murder of a girl for the application of one of these Islamic laws; (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, who is now with his back to the wall; China, which is very cautious seeing what happens in Ukraine with the Russian invasion. So Ortega is making a huge mistake and isolating himself from the civilized world,” the academic said in an interview on the program Tonight which is transmitted by Youtube and Facebook due to the censorship of the dictatorship.

“They still want to manifest a strength that I think they don’t have. That fanciful speech in defense of sovereignty, of anti-imperialism, which at this point no one believes, is what justifies this type of decision, and the belief that the world is not going to take more drastic measures. That is why I think they are daring to take this measure, but I feel that a red line is already being crossed that, although it has never been explicitly stated, it has to exist in international relations,” he added.
