The American e -commerce giant Amazon acquired a participation in the Colombian home delivery company Rappi, Bloomberg said Monday citing anonymous sources close to the operation.
The initial investment would have been made through a convertible promissory note of 25 million dollars, which gives Amazon the right to get up to 12 % Rappi, according to the aforementioned source, which indicates that these figures could change.
The agreement would allow Rappi to take advantage of the large logistics networks or the cloud capabilities of the company founded by Jeff Bezos, Amazon could allow him to solidify his position in Latin America to compete with MercadoLibre.
Rappi, who was born in 2015 in Colombia as a ‘startup’ of delivery at home, is currently a multi -purpose services platform that also has operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
The company achieved in August a loan of 100 million dollars with the Santander Bank and Kirkoswald Capital Partners to expand in Latin America, mainly in Mexico, and refinance debt, and its greatest representatives have pointed out that it could go out this year in the New York parquet.
