Amanda Oropesa: From ‘The Children of Pandora’ to reinventing herself in Madrid

MIAMI, United States. – Cuban actress Amanda Oropesa, known for her role as Vanesa in the telenovela Pandora’s children, left the Island and decided to rebuild his life in Madrid, where he now works as an assistant theater director. In a recent interview with Cuban newspaperOropesa shared her experiences as an immigrant in Spain and your plans for the future.

“It is difficult to be an immigrant, to arrive without papers, society makes you feel a little inferior, but everything is possible and you have to be prepared for when opportunities arrive,” he reflected.

Despite the challenges, the actress has found a new home at the Marco Moncloa theater company in Madrid and plans to study theater directing as well as work in film and television, she said.

Oropesa also recalled his time in Pandora’s children, one of the most successful telenovelas on Cuban television in recent years. While he received a lot of support on social media, he was also the subject of bullying and criticism, particularly for her character as Vanesa, an independent woman in Cuba.

“People see you as Vanesa, not as Amanda, there is a lot of machismo, the same women, instead of defending my character, criticize him. Where are the independent women in Cuba?” questioned the actress.

Despite the difficulties, such as the rejection of Latinos and the lack of papers, Oropesa finds positive aspects in his immigration experience in Spain. “Life in general is easier, the comforts, transportation, food, access to technology, the variety of studies and master’s degrees,” she said.

He also highlighted the cultural richness of Madrid, with its large number of theaters and works on the emblematic Gran Vía, something that is no longer found in Cuba.

Oropesa advised young people like her who want to start a life outside of Cuba to study and prepare, since arriving with a title facilitates the process. “Youth is there to take advantage of it. Don’t be afraid”, concluded the actress, who remains open to exploring new opportunities in other European countries.
