CAMCEL has advanced technology for the benefit of its users

The Cerro Largo Medical Cooperative has made a significant investment in the total renewal of its equipment in the area of imaging, which has made it possible for studies that previously had to be done in Montevideo to be carried out in Melo today.

The current leadership of CAMCEL is committed to continuing along this path to improve the service it provides to its users and, in many cases, to health users in general.

“We have made an important qualitative leap in recent years. We incorporated a state-of-the-art CT scanner, X-ray equipment with fully digital and direct acquisition technology, a mammography machine and a C-arm.” detailed Dr. Pedro Fernández Maciel.

“All this equipment is very important because it helps us improve the quality of diagnosis and, above all, perform the different studies in our center” stood out.

The Head of the Imaging Area of CAMCEL explained to EL PROFESIONAL Radio that the C-Arm is a direct digital acquisition Ray equipment that allows traumatological, vascular and bile duct control procedures to be carried out in the Surgical Block. “You have your monitors, the colleague who is working sees in real time how you are performing” he counted.

“Especially for traumatology it is very important and for the vascular part as well” held.

“We are trying to improve more and more. We are going to try to get software that allows us to do the vascular part that is being developed in our environment. It was a very remote area from a professional point of view, only in Montevideo was that done” Fernández Maciel remarked during the live interview this Tuesday, October 14. “Patients no longer have to be transferred as was done before. We are talking, for example, about angioaccesses for dialysis. Now they can be done and controlled here” he assured.

“An ambitious project is to develop the entire vascular part in Melo” He advanced when talking about the objectives for the short and medium term. “We believe that this is going to materialize. In the trauma area as well,” he said.

“CAMCEL has been characterized by being an institution that has managed to generate its own technical resources, therefore, I believe that we are in an unbeatable position to move forward,” he highlighted. “We have them and we are developing them” he added.

He later stated that imaging has undergone a substantial change with the advent of nanotechnology. “Microconductors, microprocessors, nanoconductors and microparticles are some of the advances. Today, Endoscopy capsules are used because microtechnology has made it possible to put a video camera inside a capsule that is swallowed and that gives us a view of the intestine from beginning to end. This information is processed and conclusions are drawn.” reported.

“The world is improving, it is moving by leaps and bounds. Now the issue of Artificial Intelligence has appeared, which some see as a threat, but for me it is a great tool” opined. “You have to know how to use it and it will always depend on the human factor” he added.

IN THE MONTH OF THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

The Mammographer was incorporated approximately a year ago. “It has been a great tool from an institutional point of view because we have managed to amalgamate services” he pointed out.

“We are going to end up creating the Department of Mastology that is already being put together. There are dedicated surgeons, there are anatomopathologists and imaging specialists dedicated to that” detailed Dr. Pedro Fernández Maciel.

All women, CAMCEL users between 50 and 69 years old, who sign up during the month of October will be able to have a mammogram free of charge.

Those interested can go to the CAMCEL 1 User Service Office between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
