Amaerj Patrícia Acioli Award opens entries for four categories

Registrations for the twelfth edition of the Amaerj Patrícia Acioli Human Rights Award will open today (31), which will distribute up to R$ 17,000 for the best works in the Humanistic Practices, Journalistic Reports and Academic Works categories. The second and third places will receive R$ 12 thousand and R$ 6 thousand, respectively. In the fourth category, which involves Magistrates’ Works, there will be no cash prizes. The top three finishers will receive trophies.

The Amaerj Patrícia Acioli Human Rights Award was created in 2012 by the Association of Magistrates of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Entries can be made at site of the association. The deadline for submission of works is until August 10. A jury composed of distinguished experts in the four areas will be responsible for selecting the winners. There will be five finalists per category.

As informed by Amaerj, through its press office, the hors concours award will also be granted to the personality with outstanding performance in the area of ​​human rights and citizenship, chosen by the Rio de Janeiro magistrates. The award ceremony will take place on November 7, at the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice.

The award is a tribute to Judge Patrícia Acioli, who was head of the 4th Criminal Court of São Gonçalo, metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, and was killed in 2011, in Niterói, by military police. The award aims to “identify, disseminate, encourage and honor actions in defense of human rights, giving visibility to practices and works in the area”.

In the last edition, the award received 231 entries.
