Álvaro Uribe called on the National Armed Forces (FAN) “to fulfill its function in accordance with the Constitution and help dislodge the dictatorship”

Former Colombian president Álvaro Uribe requested this Saturday, January 11, an international intervention for Venezuela, which is endorsed by the United Nations (UN), to remove Nicolás Maduro from power, after he was sworn in for the period 2025-2031 and has not yet been sworn in. have presented evidence that supports the result issued by the National Electoral Council.

“We ask for international intervention, preferably endorsed by the United Nations, to remove these tyrants from power and immediately call free elections,” Uribe said during a political event in Cúcuta, a city with the main border crossing to Venezuela.

Uribe and the presidential candidates of his party, Centro Democrático, visited Cúcuta to express their support for the Venezuelan opposition in a “sit in for freedom” in both countries.

There, former President Álvaro Uribe, carrying a Venezuelan flag, showed his support for opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González, whom he described as the “universal champions of democracy.”

Uribe also called on the National Armed Forces (FAN) “to fulfill its function in accordance with the Constitution and help dislodge the dictatorship.”

Dozens of people arrived at the demonstration with banners criticizing Maduro and praising the leaders of the opposition, as well as carrying Venezuelan flags.

«There is no life without freedom, being a slave is not an option. “Venezuela will be free at the hands of María Corina Machado,” said Uribista senator María Fernanda Cabal in an intervention in which she also stated that Venezuela is a “criminal State” and that Colombia is at risk with the current president, Gustavo Petro.

Like Uribe, former Colombian president Iván Duque insisted that Edmundo González must request international intervention for his country, as he believes that this would avoid a humanitarian crisis after the questioned inauguration of Nicolás Maduro.

«González, as legitimate president of Venezuela, and in the face of usurpation, must call on the international community and especially the countries of the inter-American system, as well as other countries committed to democracy, to carry out a humanitarian intervention in Venezuela that allows the protection of human rights and the reestablishment of democratic order,” he expressed Duke in X.
