The Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Álvaro Delgado, once again criticized and attacked the Broad Front, ironizing that “so the government goes out to fight climate change”, the Broad Front “is going to mobilize just the same.”

For the high official of the government of Lacalle Pou, the leftist party “nothing the government does is going to help”, and he remarked that “he misses” the historic leaders of the Broad Front, whose reins are now led by Fernando Pereira.

Such historical leaders are the late former president Tabaré Vázquez, former president and former senator José Mujica and former vice president, former senator and former Minister of Economy, Danilo Astori. The last two, although retired from their duties, are still present and active on the national political scene.

“One could not agree with them ideologically with the policies they took, but clearly they were leaders of great weight who set the course and contained, and they are missed,” he added.

“If you are permanently against everything that is done, to create sources of employment, which generates investment, educational reforms -which they are against without knowing it-, social security -which made strikes without knowing the reform, these strikes just in case- … The truth is that they have the right to do so, we are in a democratic society and part of what is guaranteed by this Uruguay that we have, this government, that everyone has the right to criticize. But there is a limit to criticism: respect and tolerance, and above all violence, which in some cases has crossed the line,” said Delgado, who was a senator from the National Party before becoming secretary of Presidency thanks to Lacalle Pou.

Delgado affirms that, when the National Party has been in opposition, it was “constructive” and that it proposed bills “all the time”, but he fired at the FA because, in his opinion, “it has not yet taken on that role of constructive opposition, which The only thing they have done is say no, no, no, and try to block any initiative made by the government, even those that they claimed while they were the government.
