as many other times, Intellectuals of the Old Regime Get arguments as if the story had begun on December 1, 2018. The turn now, repeatedly, plays Enrique Krauze, who in the newspaper Reform He wrote the column The miasma of power. Lost in the nostalgia of closeness with the rot of PRIAN, He longs for those times when it was up to him to decide the right thing, when he was complicit in the worst impoverishment and dispossession that the country has lived.
For decades, Krauze allowed and even celebrated the systematic weakening of the State and its institutions, disguising it as a modernization speech. He was part of a group of very close intellectuals to power, who legitimized neoliberalism and, above all, the violence and growth of drug trafficking in Mexico. In 2005, he wrote his text of the Tropical Messiah, celebrated and legitimized the faccious use of the PGR to promote the lawlessness and imprisonment of one of the main candidates for the presidential election (fundamental feature of authoritarian regimes). In 2006, he legitimized the theft of the presidential election and for 2009 (https://bit.ly/47ekwgk), Krauze wrote in favor of the war policy implemented by Calderón and his infamously famous Secretary of Public Security, today prisoner for drug trafficking, Genaro García Luna. He was trying to wash one of the worst presidents of the country and promoted that the media did not report reality, since, in his opinion, “the written press has gone beyond the limits of information and communication continuously publishing the most atrocious images of the war against drug trafficking, in a practice that borders at times with the pornography of violence.” Everything, to protect the president who ended up assigning about 40 million pesos in public contracts to his magazine Free lyrics.
The same did with Enrique Peña Nieto; He legitimized the way he won the elections, promoted the dispossession through the reforms of the Pact for Mexico, he never talked about gigantic fraud or the multiple errors of his government, using 40 million additional pesos. With two notable exceptions, 2017 and 2018, when in the FIL he strongly criticized Peña and said that the PRI deserved to lose. Coincidentally, in those years his Editorial Clío did not receive money and Free lyrics He saw significantly reduced investment in official advertising.
In recent times, when the INE act was questioned, Krauze, in the most style of 1984, wanted to erase the story and declared that “the elections in which Calderón and Peña won had been impeccable”, despite the multiple evidence that there was fraud. We should not surprise us that he had current contracts with the INE when he made those statements.
Now, predictably, he argues that the triumph of 2018, as well as the historical election of President Claudia Sheinbaum in 2024, have to do with a desire for revenge, revenge and resentment of the people. That, according to him, is the only reason why people vote for 4T. Recurrent ignores the reality of the increase in the quality of life, the reduction of poverty and the historical decrease of inequality. For the first government report of the president, Mexico, measured by the Gini index, is the second least unequal country in the entire American continent, only behind Canada. It seems that Krauze suffers from selective myopia, because while ignoring all the achievements that have been taken from 2018 to the first year of the doctor’s government, he has just realized that the phenomenon of Huachicol exists. Phenomenon that has a lot to do with the capture and weakening of key entities that occurred not in a few years, but over decades. It is very well documented how the theft of fuel was increasing along the sexennia of Calderón and Peña by the hand of overempter, dismantling, privatization and closing of Pemex infrastructure. Obviously, he never wrote a single line denouncing that.
On what he did, and much, it was about his defense of the Supreme Court of Justice, in which he praised and defended Norma Piña and any minister who was allied to her. He never criticized the Court’s decision to protect the Billing (fundamental piece in the framework of Huachicol) Against the declaration of its activity as a serious crime, to protect companies vs Huachicol I think it should no longer surprise us that yes, in effect, I also had contracts with the SCJN.
But not everything is your search for the public budget. Krauze is part of a group of “intellectuals” that, faithful to neoliberal ideology, serve different interests from Mexico. Recall that on March 15, 2021 he published an opinion column in the New York Times, in which he called for the intervention of the US government in the internal affairs of Mexico. And how to forget your participation in the call Berlin operation, Designed to prevent the triumph of the 4T in 2018. It is part of the old regime that does not end, and that now, as long as it returns under the ultra -right umbrella. That ultra -right that through legislators such as Alito Or Lilly Téllez calls an intervention. No one should surprise us that Krauze is part of the magazine’s intellectual team Bast, of the Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego Center.
