For its part, the NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) asked this Wednesday, October 5, the states that make up the UN not to give Venezuela the vote to be a member of the Human Rights Council, due to its history of repression by part of the administration of Nicolás Maduro.

The director for the United Nations of HRW, Louis Charbonneau, argued his request by saying that the “vengeful action” of the Venezuelan Executive does not make the country suitable to be in the aforementioned Council because if it continues there, it will undermine the credibility of the UN.

The election of new members of the United Nations Human Rights Council will take place on October 11 and Venezuela competes with Chile and Costa Rica for two places reserved for Latin American countries. In 2019, the central american nation he applied to be part of the instance but did not obtain the required support. Then Brazil and our country remained.

The Fact Finding Mission submitted on tuesday september 20 its third annual report regarding the situation in Venezuela, focusing on the chain of command and the commission of crimes against humanity committed by intelligence services such as the Bolivian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) and the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim ).
