Morelia, Mich., 1,980 members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard arrived yesterday in the state as part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, reported General Juan Bravo Velázquez, commander of the 21st Military Zone.
The elements join Operation Paricutin, which also includes 4,386 agents who already operate in Michoacan territory and 4,140 who will be relocated to contain crime on the borders of Michoacán with other entities.
A contingent of 300 soldiers and national guards was the first to arrive at said Military Zone, based in Morelia, where Bravo Velázquez urged them to take extreme security measures in the face of the firepower of organized crime.
Last night, elements of the Army patrolled Francisco I. Madero Avenue, in front of the Morelia Cathedral, in several heavily armed units, to the indifference of the citizens.
The operational force of both corporations will be 10,506 elements, and they will be deployed mainly in Uruapan and Apatzingán.
The Navy contributes 1,781 elements
Added to this are 1,781 elements of the Navy Secretariat who will be in charge of operations in the Pacific Ocean and in the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Aquila and Coahuayana.
Army and GN personnel will work with five helicopters, 1,031 artillery ground vehicles, 18 drones, an unmanned aerial system, three vehicles dedicated to the location and destruction of explosive mines, and anti-drone equipment.
The Navy troops will patrol with six ships and boats, eight helicopters, four planes and five unmanned aerial systems, in addition to 108 ground vehicles.
In the case of Apatzingán, the reinforcement of the 43rd Military Zone is the result of the murder of Bernardo Bravo, president of the Association of Citrus Growers of the Apatzingán Valley, executed on October 19, allegedly by César Sepúlveda Arellano, Botoxleader of the cartel The Whites of Troy.
