MIAMI, United States.- Almost 115,000 Cubans have arrived in the United States (USA) in the last seven months, according to a report with the official figures of immigrants, published this Wednesday by the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP, for its acronym in English).
Since last October 1, 2021, the date on which the fiscal year begins in the United States, a total of 114,916 Cubans have entered US territory.
According to the numbers, in April alone, 35,079 immigrants from Cuba entered the United States.
Likewise, the report clarifies, most of the income of Cuban citizens has been reported through border points with Mexico, through which 34,821 Cubans entered, also in April.
Of the total number of immigrants registered that month, 136 were minors (between 0 and 17 years old) unaccompanied, and 7,950 families.
For its part, to the north of the United States, along the border with Canada, 45 Cubans entered in April.
On April 21, migration talks between the United States and Cuba took place in Washington. During the meeting, both countries insisted on ensuring safe, legal and orderly migration. However, the numbers of the recent migratory wave only increase.
In January of this year, two months after the free visa between Cuba and Nicaragua was decreed, 9,832 entered the United States, in February the figure rose to 16,658 and in March there were 32,402 Cubans.
The crisis, which has led the citizens of the island to flee the country, either due to economic problems or due to the resurgence of repression, after the social outbreak of July 11, 2021, has left an exodus only compared to that of Mariel .
US authorities estimate that by the end of October 2022 some 155,000 Cubans will have arrived in the US.
The figure would far exceed that of Mariel, when around 125,000 Cubans arrived during the sea bridge and another 30,000 did so during the “rafter” crisis in 1994.
