Almost 100 vehicles have been burned in the armed strike of the Clan del Golfo in Antioquia

The violent attacks by the Clan del Golfo in Antioquia have so far left 98 vehicles burned, including buses, trucks and motorcyclesGovernor Aníbal Gaviria confirmed. With 2,000 men from the Army and the Police, security was reinforced on the roads of the department, especially in Urabá and Bajo Cauca.

The departmental president assured that with air and ground patrols they seek to recover normal traffic on the roads from Antioch. Until now, 117 caravans have been built to transport 500 tons of foodgasoline and gas.

“There are 98 vehicles incinerated in Antioquia territory and We have already achieved the reestablishment of commercial activity in some of the municipalities of the North, Bajo Cauca and Urabá. We hope that everything will be reactivated this week.”

From Antioquia, Defense Minister Diego Molano confirmed that 80 members of the Clan del Golfo who oppressed commercial activity and mobility were captured and are in the process of being prosecuted. He assured that this week the joint patrols will continue to achieve the reactivation of commerce in the affected municipalities.

Regarding the offensive against those responsible for the violent actions against the population, Minister Diego Molnao said that as of this Saturday they began to distribute flyers offering 5 billion pesos for aliases ‘Siopas’ and ‘Chiquito Malo’, leaders of the Clan del Golfo.

Situation in Frontino?

A group of hooded and armed men harassed the police station in Frontino, Western Antioquia. The municipality is without gas, affecting more than 2,300 people, commerce is closed and there is already a food shortage.

The mayor of Frontino, Jorge Elejalde López, confirmed that the situation is serious, because despite the overflights of the Army and the Police, there are still no forceful actions of the State to protect the civilian population. He assured that “the population is enduring hunger”, the families have not been able to go out to do their agricultural work or buy their food out of fear.

In a letter, the 19 mayors of western Antioquia sent a message to President Iván Duque, telling him that “the territory is subjected to a paramilitary action where those affected are the most vulnerable inhabitants”.
