Alma Poet and Danilo Martínez are released, but the process against them continues

Alma Poet, Danilo Martínez, Protestas

MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban artist and activist Rosmery Almeda Tapiabetter known as Alma Poet, was released this Thursday after spending almost three weeks in detention at the State Security Instruction Center at 100 and Aldabó.

“Alma Poet is already home, three kilos lighter, with a hollow smile, a gloomy look, and an immense emptiness. But it will flourish, I am sure, it will flourish,” fellow activist Arián Cruz Álvarez (Tata Poet) wrote on Facebook.

The young woman was released after the Prosecutor’s Office approved a modification of the change of measure. However, “the process continues open and progressing,” added Tata Poet, who thanked the support received.

“Thank you, thank you very much, to all the people who were there, with messages of support, with messages of strength, with messages of love. A thousand thanks to all the friends who constantly wrote to me privately, to those who never failed me, to those who were always at the foot of the canyon. Thank you, thank you for everything, thank you for so much.”

Shortly after his release from his girlfriend, Tata Poet received a summons from the political police stating that he must appear tomorrow at the Zapata y C.

Alma Poet was arrested in the raid launched by the political police on October 1 against those who were demonstrating peacefully in the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado.

This Thursday, Danilo Martínez Rojas, who had been repressed after shouting “Díaz-Canel singao” at the same demonstration, was also released.

Until last Tuesday, the NGO Justicia 11J had counted a total of 52 demonstrators detained for participating in the protests that took place in Cuba after the passage of Hurricane Ian.
