‘Alleged fuel shortage had no basis in reality’: Government

'There is enough jet fuel to operate without problems for at least five days': Ministry of Transport

The Ministries of Transport, Mines and Energy, and the Colombian Petroleum Company – Ecopetrol inform the country that the contingency in which JET A1 fuel supply risks were considered has been overcome. “We reiterate that the information about the shortage had no basis in reality, ignoring the veracity of the announcements by Ecopetrol, an entity that at all times reiterated the existence of the fuel. We confirm to the country that the contingency that occurred due to an electrical failure at the Cartagena Refinery has already been overcome and that the national government will continue to work in a coordinated manner to avoid speculation, misinformation and actions that harm users of the air transport service in the country,” the high Government pointed out.

Ecopetrol:
1. According to them, it acted diligently in the face of the electrical contingency that occurred on August 16 at the Cartagena Refinery, completely reestablishing its operation and guaranteeing the supply of the different energy sources produced there, including JET A1 fuel, used for
the air transport operation.

2. Ordered the import of 100 thousand barrels of JET A1 to support operations during the contingency.

3. Delivered and continues to deliver sufficient JET A1 fuel for the normal operation of air transport and in compliance with contractual commitments with its marketing clients and
wholesalers.

Ministry of Transport:

1. They indicated that they maintain permanent monitoring of the operation of air transport companies in all airports in the country, verifying their normal functioning.

2. Through Aerocivil and the Superintendency of Transport, the reasons that led airlines to decide to cancel flights without apparent justification are being reviewed.

Ministry of Mines and Energy:

1. Through the Hydrocarbons Directorate, they maintain permanent monitoring of the fuel inventories of JET A1 marketing companies, confirming that there was always enough for the operation of air transport.

2. It will continue its surveillance and control actions to detail the inventory and logistics of fuel delivery throughout the country.
