Now it’s time to analyze more in the background why we are living these moments and where we are going. Populism follows common rules in terms of generating gather, seeking to polarize, create problems where there are no, hide the true issues of concern, lie systematically, make enemies to any type of dissident, and always have other data to reverse technical or scientific criticisms. It is the same as fascist dictatorships of the first half of the twentieth century. We have lived this dynamic during the last 7 years in Mexico and we know how harmful it is. Incredibly we are seeing that now it is in the United States that this harmful procedure is valid and impulse.
The fundamental difference is that, although it hurts us, it is not the same to destroy Mexico than to injure the world. But today populism is the source of all the evils that afflict us. And it is because instead of making decisions based on hard data, scientific research, discussions between experts, and evaluation of viable options, the only thing that counts is the whim and abuse to continue nurturing narrative and demagogy. What is happening with Trump is what López Obrador did (and Sheinbaum continues). The same patterns follow because in the background they are twin brothers. The bad example spreads. The experience of the past is forgotten soon and the same deceptions are repeated. Go absurd.
World institutions are tested. And they were founded in the middle of the last century under the premise that they would always operate according to good collective faith. However, we are now with the great dilemma of the rule of law, multilateralism and contractual respect. Under the premise that the American people defend himself, Mr. Trump has dedicated himself to demolishing any trace of government controls, respect for treaties, and even deference to judges. An unthinkable situation until a couple of months in a country like the United States that boasted to be the paradigm of a functional democracy and with full division of powers. That is no longer the case, it changed in a couple of weeks, and does not seem to stop despite the obvious risks. Today the collapse of constitutional controls is seen, as has been happening in Mexico since the end of 2018.
In the local context, what happens to us is that in the face of the avalanche of problems generated by the United States, in Mexico the crossroads is real and absolute. And before the dilemma of correcting the way to avoid the collapse, the answer is that there is continuity on the second floor of the debacle. Although it is said that you want to generate certainty, the government in turn is stubborn to continue destroying institutions and heading clarity. At that juncture is where the process of judicial reform enters and all that this brings. Therefore, we cannot fail to insist that what is proposed is that the determination of new judges is not a meritorious act, but the whim of replacing those who dared to stop the excesses of López Obrador.
The process has been very socio and opaque. With decent exceptions, the cluster of people listed with candidacies for the judicial process are a mixture of scoundrels, cynical, absurd and others (Tito García Onofre Dixit). The legacy of the governments of Morena is dramatic because the division of powers and democratic normality in Mexico impacts. This is real and visible. The incineration hurts.
We are crazy to allow these abuses. We are going worse. It is evident that the rule of law and legal certainty are extinguished day by day. There is no longer the slightest respect, and nowadays there will be no judges who defend anything other than “popular.” If for that they wanted to get to power they deserve to leave it as soon as possible. They have led an irreversible damage in the short and medium term.
We are waiting for a long process of reconstruction of a nation with viability, order and progress. Always watching that social lags are dejected and that mobility is real, and not the aberrant simulations and corruption today. As the classic would say “we were better, when we were worse.” Money transfers without promoting real improvements are deliveries of resources that do not promote change but the dependence and achievement of an electoral booty without real intention of doing good.
The reality is that we are in the prelude to a situation of great repercussions. Today is no longer the huge problem with a devastated country in its most sensitive issues of insecurity, injustice, impunity, immobility, and inequality. He had never been so bad with such an obvious time bomb. Morena’s coup d’etat has been lethal. The executive took, the majority qualified in the Federal Congress stole, and now they prepare for the last assault on the Judiciary. The consequences of these steps will feel for decades to come. The effects will not be evident immediately, but they will be devastating because there will be no defense of rights but judges that will have as a mission an ideological nature and to endorse what is “popular.” A tragedy for a nation that until recently walked towards a functional democracy. We will lose the possibility of defending ourselves before authoritarian acts. Something typical of tyrannical regimes.
Nothing that has been done in these years of Morenism has strengthened the rights of citizens to live in a better country. The decline towards an excessively and potentially authoritarianism to a tyranny is evident and very worrying. The defense of this destructive and autocratic impulse implies an indefensible complicity. It is not worth using demagogy to defend the indefensible. There are few spaces for press freedom. To close rows seriously before there is no way back. Because today we are with everything backwards.
PD1. International markets remain very volatile and punishing the angry decisions of Mr. Trump. The loss of value was of such dimension that even Mr. Trump had to give a 90 -day extension of the reciprocal tariffs above all the damage that accumulated in a couple of days. Excesses are not tolerated by those who control the great world capitals.
PD2. The AICM problem is still a nightmare. Now it turns out that he will be invested to try to improve his operation in something. What are unable to admit is that the number of operations or the AIFA cannot be grow because they are in the same area of routes. Invest more money in what does not work. Soon that common sense will deprive and the true solution that is the Texcoco airport will be rescued.
