On October 31, Hugo Fleitas, governor of Cordillera (PLRA), announced on his social networks that he will fight for the presidency of 2023.
“From the sacred lands of the Andes, lands watered with the blood of thousands of Paraguayans who defended our inheritance and thus saw the birth of great statesmen and heroes, a dream is born, an illusion, a great commitment to help to have the dreamed homeland”, reads part of the post.
The officialization also featured a political event where around 400 leaders participated. Among them; Elected mayors of Cordillera (15 Liberals from 20 districts), Amado Florentín, national senator, and Milciades Duré, Parlasurian.
The politician affirms that one of the priorities, if he reaches the Executive, will be the improvement of the judicial system. The objective is to have an independent and balanced Justice through a constitutional reform.
Here are some questions about your candidacy.
Did you have any differences with Efraín Alegre?
We are not fighting. I visited him last Thursday (October 28) to inform him of the decision we made to carry out the presidential project. He didn’t bother, he just wished me luck. We have every right to have our own projects.
Today we see this need to offer the liberal affiliate. To be a factor of unity that our people demand.
Why should citizens vote for you?
On the basis that the Andean citizens approved our management, as governor as well. We reached the first vice presidency of the PLRA with more than 23 thousand votes from Cordillera. We have also won 15 municipalities in 20 districts. We are firm enough to question the last two governments that have not given anything to the public, we need alternation.
Were you able to meet with Blas Llano?
We had a communication. With former senator Dionisio Amarilla as well. We are in talks with the two important leaders. Advancing in important projects with deputies Eusebio Alvarenga and Jorge Ávalos Mariño. They have already committed to the project.
We have also talked with Buzarquis. We are going to be talking with all the leaders of our party. I think that a different option will present itself this time in opposition. Our country needs decentralization. Countries develop thanks to the capacity of their municipalities. We need more budget, more autonomy, but also more controls.
Are you going to face Horacio Cartes?
Not only Fleitas must face Cartes, but all of Paraguay. He is a man who has run over the institutions. So we are going to beat the candidate who comes out of the red inmates. Peña and Velázquez will represent more of the same.
What kind of speech will you use in the campaign?
One has to be genuine and authentic. One has to question what is wrong. The last two governments were the worst of the democratic era.
