The national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, launched into criticism of the decision of the National Action Party (PAN) to end their alliance and asserted that “they come out and whine” by blaming the tricolor of the electoral defeats they had in coalition. He argued that this is not the time for “cowardly leadership.”
The “breakup” was formalized on Saturday, after in its relaunch act, the blue and white terminated its alliance policy.
Consulted yesterday in the Senate, Alito Moreno indicated that his party will remain a promoter of coalitions to compete against Morena, but stressed that “what cannot be allowed is that today they want to use a speech to say that they would not go with the PRI to wash their face.”
After ensuring that “the one who dirty the face of the PAN, who accused them of being corrupt, cynical and cowardly” was Morena, he reproached that “now it turns out that, instead of holding on, having character like the PRI has done”, in the PAN “they now come out to whine saying that they want to blame the PRI.” He defended that the 2024 candidacies for the Presidency of the Republic and for the Head of Government in Mexico City were proposed by the blue and white.
Stating that “this is the moment when you cannot have cowardly political leaders who are afraid,” he added that “two, three cramps from the government because they tell them about the real estate cartel and they run away and are scared.”
He indicated that the PRI is ready to compete alone. The senator also considered that it is not time to look for a “good person” as a candidate, but rather someone who will resolve the country’s issues with character. “Here what we need is not who is a good husband, we need a good president,” he noted.
In the Senate session, legislators approved creating the Cybersecurity Commission, which Moreno will lead, after the presidency of the Navy Commission was removed from him because the number of members of the PRI bench was reduced.
