The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reported that Algeria enabled the export of bone-in meat from our country, and accepted the proposal for an updated certificate for shipments of fresh chilled boneless vacuum-packed beef, extending the shelf life to 120 days.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo, highlighted that “the progress achieved is very auspicious for our country’s international trade”, when pondering the negotiations carried out by Sagyp, Senasa and the Foreign Ministry.

The dialogue culminated on Monday, January 16, with a technical videoconference between the two countries, which included the participation of the Argentine Embassy and representatives of the Algerian Veterinary Services Directorate (DSV).

The agricultural portfolio reported that during this virtual meeting, the technical modifications required to update the export agreement for refrigerated bovine meat with and without bone were identified.

Also, the recognition of the shelf life of the refrigerated product was extended to 120 days. In this way, new conditions were reached that allow promoting greater commercial opportunities between both countries.

In this way, the Algerian health service communicated to the president of Senasa, Diana Guillén, its agreement with the consensual health certificate that contains the requirements for the shipment of bovine meat with bone from Argentina to the African country.

Within the framework of the visit carried out in November 2022, officials from the Foreign Ministry held a meeting with the Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Henni Abdelhafid, where they discussed the possibilities of acquiring beef from Argentina.

Argentina exported 29,700 tons in 2004, and the last export of beef had been made in 2018.

Algeria is the 11th export destination for Argentine agro-industrial products, with a total value of USD 1,572 million in 2022, with a year-on-year growth of 9.7%.

In particular, Algeria stands out as the main export destination for powdered milk, with a total value of US$351 million in 2022.

In addition, Argentina is the first supplier of corn, soybean meal and dairy products to Algeria.
