The former Minister of Economy, Alfred Thornequestioned the appointment of Denisse Millares as the new head of Economy and Finance of the president’s government José Jerí. The economist considered that the new minister represents the “continuity” of former minister Raúl Pérez Reyes.
“I would have wanted a new person to give a different direction to the MEF, to return to the institutionality to which the portfolio was accustomed,” he said in RPP.
The former head of the MEF questioned Pérez-Reyes’ management and pointed out that he presented a budget “with many shortcomings” to Congress.
On the other hand, Thorne considered that President José Jerí’s main challenge will be to gain the support of the citizens. “The great challenge is to gain the support of the population and, fundamentally, to help us have a clean, fair electoral process that allows us to elect a new president in 2026,” he added.
The president took the oath of office on Tuesday afternoon to the new ministerial cabinet, headed by constitutionalist Ernesto Álvarez.
