Alfredo Cahe, Maradona's personal doctor for 30 years, dies

The doctor Alfredo Cahedoctor of Diego Armando Maradona Cahe, who was a 30-year-old Argentine politician, died on Friday in Argentina, according to the Secretary of Tourism, Environment and the Environment of the South American country, Daniel Scioli, on his social networks. Cahe, who died on Friday at the age of 80, graduated as a surgeon from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), had an extensive career in private medicine and was specialized in intensive care, according to local media.

But, without a doubt, his relevance came from being the head doctor of ‘Pelusa’ between 1977 and 2017, in addition to treating other public figures in the South American country, such as the television diva Susana Giménez, the former president Carlos Menem (1989-1999) or the singer Sandro, the latter two now deceased.

“It is with deep sorrow that I bid farewell to my dear friend Alfredo Cahe, recognised for his professional and human qualities,” wrote the former vice president of Argentina (2003-2007) on his Instagram and X accounts, where he posted a photo in which the two of them can be seen smiling. The former motorcyclist also said that he will always remember “his medical work and his spiritual and supportive support to overcome adversity”, as well as “his values” for the friendship they shared.

Cahe met Maradona when he was a teenager (he was 16 years old) and he was brought to see him by his then manager, Jorge Cyzterpiller, to increase his muscle mass. The latter, seeing him “so skinny”, as he stated in a later interview, prescribed him vitamins and asked the agent to change his diet.

Cahe became his doctor of reference and was close to the world football star during the worst moments of his life, linked to his drug addiction, such as when he was on the brink of death in Punta del Este (Uruguay) in 2000 or when he went to Cuba to undergo rehabilitation treatment between 2000 and 2005.

The world champion in Mexico 1986 passed away on November 25, 2020, a few days after turning 60, and Cahe He was one of the most critical voices against the health personnel who cared for him in the last weeks of his life. “I have no doubt that all the medical actions were bad, very bad. They would give the impression of not being doctors,” he said in an interview with the TN channel in February 2021, when he said that the ’10’ “could have been saved.”

Cahe even used the word “suicide” to refer to the end of the former Barcelona and Napoli player’s life and questioned the fact that he spent his last weeks at home and not in intensive care in a hospital, the “only option” for him. There are currently eight defendants in a trial for that death that will begin on March 11, 2025, after the start scheduled for October 1 was postponed on Thursday.
