The former presidential candidate of Popular Action, Alfredo Barnecheaattacked him National Election Jury (JNE) after this body annulled the party’s primary elections and nullified its participation in the 2026 general elections.
Barnechea questioned the decision of the highest electoral court and warned that they will take action in different instances against its members.
The leader maintained that the members of the JNE “do not know who they are dealing with” and stated that they will seek to investigate their actions, even mentioning possible complaints related to money laundering.
“I want to tell the members of the JNE who do not know who they are facing, that we are going to persecute them at all levels, we are going to find out everything about them,” he said in statements to Canal N.
“They have never notified the party. They have not held hearings and issued a resolution of that nature,” he added and stated that they are “going to appeal, we are going to fight until the end because Acción Popular is going to be in the 2026 elections.”
“The JNE does not have the authority to intervene in these processes, and the ONPE already declared that it was a clean election,” he concluded.
The electoral body justified its decision on alleged irregularities linked to compliance with the party’s internal democracy.
