Alfonso López-Chau, presidential candidate of Ahora Nación: "The criminals are in other parties"

The presidential candidate of Ahora Nación, Alfonso López-Chau, reported that his party’s candidates who have complaints or sentences have been invited to resign and that the cases are “in the Ethics Commission for eventual sanction or expulsion from December 2025.”

“Now the Nation’s mission is to restore the sense of greatness to Peruvian politics and extract it from the lowness to which it has been subjected,” he highlighted.

Likewise, he questioned the lack of oversight of members of other parties. “It is striking that so much space is dedicated to the Ahora Nación party, ignoring what everyone knows and that is that the criminals are in other political parties, however, there is a silence about them that screams: What’s happening! Why don’t they investigate?” he exclaimed.

López-Chau: “I don’t want to be a president tied to a congress with a majority”

López Chau appeared in Juliaca as part of his electoral campaign and began his speech by pointing out that “the dead rule when their example is followed”, “because the illustrious dead are not mourned, they are greeted, acclaimed and venerated”, “we must continue with the example of those young people.” [Hay que] raise the commitment to the country (…)”, he specified.

At another time he maintained that what currently exists in Puno is the need for justice. “There is hunger that is not quenched with food and thirst that is not quenched with water; it is the pride of men and women. It is their pride and their dignity,” he said.

The candidate for the presidential seat called those who run the Executive and Parliament “garbage” and called for the purpose of having a majority in Parliament so that he is not a kidnapped president.

“I don’t want to be a kidnapped president, tied to a congress with a majority that doesn’t let you do things. (…) We are here without money, without millions and without thugs. (…) We need the great push to finish things off. We need on April 12 to finish them off and cut off their necks in a single measure so that all the corruption goes away. We have not come to create one more force. To make history with these dead. That’s why I said, I put the sacred majesty of Peruvian history on these garbage that “They have captured Congress and they have captured the Executive,” he said.
