The Cuban musician Alexander Abreu and his orchestra Havana D´Primera are currently working on a song entitled “Team Asere”, dedicated to the island team that participates in the V World Baseball Classic (WBC)an initiative that several colleagues have already joined.
In accordance with a report from the agency Latin Press (PL)Abreu advanced part of the chorus of the piece on social networks, which began to take shape when the Cuban cast managed to advance to the next phase of the tournament, to be held in Japan.

“I walk with Yemayá and with all the powers, Ta weno yaaaaaaa, I am Team Asere”, would be part of the lyrics devised by Abreu, the media reports.
The theme takes its name from one of the most popular phrases with which the Cuban is identified (asere), synonymous with friend, brother or partner.
According to PLProminent musicians immediately responded to the summons of Havana D´Primera, among them the legendary Orquesta Aragón, the salseros Isaac Delgado and Enrique Álvarez and the Charanga Latina and the Buena Fe duo, among others who would give life to this artistic fusion in honor of the National sport.
«Musicians who want to get on, welcome. Ball is what it is. We have to push everywhere,” Abreu highlighted in a Facebook post, in which he extended an invitation to all Cuban musicians who want to join this initiative.
As the World Classic has elapsed, the hashtag #TeamAsere has gone viral on social networks, setting a trend in publications referring to Cuban participation in the tournament.
Through a notethe Cuban portal Cubasi explains that the term was born in a meme published on the Facebook page El Pelotazo.
Its creators devised a seal that will identify the Cuban team, as other Caribbean teams did, in the manner of Team Rubio from Puerto Rico, Plátano Power from the Dominican Republic or Arepa Power from Venezuela.
Initially, the island’s official media and its journalists began to use #elCubaClasico for their publications on different platforms, but they have had to change in some cases, and in others add #TeamAsere due to its greater relevance.
The popularity of this stamp has reached the Twitter account of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who used it in a recent post congratulating the Cuban team for qualifying for the second round of the tournament and offering his support.

Cubasí recalls that the term asere “may be vulgar to some, but there is no Cuban who does not know it, and that is how it now functions as a singular point of convergence and identification around the ball.”
The new context “exemplifies how words seem to take on a life of their own, acquiring new meanings and connotations over time and circumstances,” the publication adds.
